Every day, people get hurt and killed in accidents on our streets. That's a fact. But it isn't something that seems real or registers with me. Unless the person killed is someone I know or a famous person, such as a politician. Late last night, Jörg Haider died in a car accident on his way home. One moment he was celebrating his party's election result and the next he was gone. This can happen to anyone and it can happen so fast that you need to take a moment to pause and think.
Today will be a calm day for me, in memory of all the people who are taken from us too soon, through accidents, diseases or crimes. May they rest in peace.
